ABOUT
THE BOOK
Poetry
can provide a key to unlock the language of the heart.
It reflects the rhythm of being and transcends all national boundaries.
It provides a channel for emotions to reach out and touch the reader or
listener with an invisible hand. Voices in Verse is a book of poetry
written by Soroptimists from all over the world – 65 poets from
11
countries. Linked by this common bond of communication, its poets
emphasise the importance of literacy and the need to foster its
development.
Women reflect on the beauty of their countryside, proclaim the power of
their heritage and identify the problems on their streets. They
describe feelings about diet, falling in love at a mature age, and the
importance of teamwork. They share a common bond in being members of
Soroptimist International, a womens’ organisation committed to
‘making
a difference’ in the lives of others.
The members of one club, Canterbury, in the South East of England,
invite you to join them on this poetic journey, as you share the
laughter and tears of these international Voices in Verse. |
